This is the second in a two part series of videos exploring the Match color tool in Artisan 5. Find out how the pre-set white, gray and black Match color tools work, and when to use them.

Objective: Use the match color tool to alter the colors of elements on your pages.
Recap: Match color tool adjusts hue, saturation, and brightness (HSB) all at once. The white, gray, and black options use the following preset levels:
Color ribbon > Match >
- White – no hue, saturation = 0, brightness = 100 - Gray – no hue, saturation = 0, brightness = 84 - Black – no hue, saturation = 0, brightness = 0 The match color tool allows you to change selected pixels in an embellishment, on a paper, or in a photo to a preset color; in this case, to white, gray, or black. The effects can be quite dramatic, and this tool allows you to retain the pattern and depth of the element while changing the color. This tool is also available in Historian.
These tools can be used on any element, but they are most useful for photographs.
With the element selected:
Color ribbon > Match > White
- Select a pixel in the element. - All of the pixels in that element that match the selected pixel will turn white. - Refer to the preview image to see what the change will look like. - Click OK to accept the change. Notice that the hue of other pixels in that element did not change, but the brightness of the entire element does change. - The white preset option works best on pixels of a lighter color. - Use this tool to brighten an element, paper, or photo while still retaining the texture, patterns, and detail of the element or paper and without washing out photos. Color ribbon > Match > Gray
- Works the same way, but will darken whites and desaturate colors. - Match > Gray is helpful for correcting color casts in photos. Color ribbon > Match > Black
- Match > black does the opposite of match white, and darkens the selected pixels. - Match > black can have a dramatic effect on color, particularly reds. - Match > Black is perfect for darkening silhouettes.
