Digital Scrapbooking Overlays are comparable to traditional transparencies. Part of the image is transparent, allowing elements beneath it on a layout to show through. Overlays are usually designed as a border or vellum type of layer on the layout. Video Notes:

- - Adding an Overlay. To add an overlay, select your digital art kit and locate an overlay in the kit. Drag and drop the overlay onto the page. Once the overlay is on the page, it can be positioned. Or, hover the mouse over the overlay, click the down arrow and select add to page.
  - Filling an Overlay. Overlays can be filled with color or paper. To fill an overlay with color, select the overlay. From the Quick Access Toolbar, click on Fill and then Solid Color. Select a color to fill the overlay. To fill an overlay with paper, from the Quick Access Toolbar, click on Fill and then click on From Art Kit. Browse to the desired art kit. Select a paper and click on Select Content. The cutting board opens. Make any desired adjustments to the fill selection, click ok. Even overlays that are already designed with color and can be refilled.
  - Overlay with a fill. Due to the fill on the center of an overlay, it can take away from view of the page. From the Quick Access Toolbar, click on the down arrow on the Opacity tool. Move the slider to the left until the desired amount of transparency is achieved. By lowering the opacity, the overlay will become more of a vellum sitting on top of the page.
  - Layering Overlay on the Elements Panel. Overlays do not have to remain as the top layer of a layout. Using the Elements panel move the overlay down through the layers of the layout to achieve different visual impacts.
