Hollywood Crop Pre-Crop Week 1 Distributions and Activities
First stop: The Hollywood Sign
We are on a journey. This week we are visiting the Hollywood Sign as we journey to the Dolby Theatre.
Here are some fun facts about the Hollywood sign:
- The original Hollywood sign was constructed in 1923.
- The original Hollywood sign actually said "HOLLYWOODLAND."
- The Hollywoodland sign was not originally intended to be an icon for the film industry.
- The Hollywoodland sign was designed to be an advertisement for a real estate development.
- The Hollywoodland sign was designed to be in place for 18 months while the lots for the real estate development were sold.
- The Hollywoodland sign was lit by 4,000 lightbulbs. The bulbs were timed so that the words "HOLLY," "WOOD," and "LAND" lit up one after the other followed by the complete word being lit up.
- Each letter of the original Hollywoodland sign was as high as 50 feet tall.
- The Hollywood sign has its own trust fund for the purpose of maintaining and promoting it.
- The Hollywood Sign Trust was created in 1992.
- The Hollywood sign is an official Landmark.
How cool is that?
